Black Buy Designs ("BBD") was conceived more than 20 years ago by Unitra Renee, a former Fashion and Beauty Coordinator at ESSENCE Magazine. Over the years, Unitra cultivated a bold vision of a New Mainstream—one born from witnessing exceptionally talented creatives go overlooked within the traditional fashion landscape, despite being the very backbone of its most influential trends.

For far too long, many Black fashion designers have appeared in editorials as brief mentions or background footnotes. Black Buy Designs exists to change that narrative. BBD is a dedicated, curated marketplace intentionally designed to position these innovators not as supporting characters—but as the headliners they have always been.
